FAQs

What is a Dermatologist?

Dermatologists are specialist medical doctors who are experts in conditions of the skin, hair, nails, wet areas of mouth and genitalia and skin cancer. To become a dermatologist in Australia, applicants must be a registered medical practitioner and be accepted onto the Australasian College of Dermatologists’ specialist training program where they complete at least four years of specialist dermatology training.

I am a GP/specialist, where should I send referrals?

Referrals are invited via:

  • email at admin@dermgroup.com.au;

  • Medical Objects (Dr Sarath Bodapati, Provider 492981DJ).

Do I need a referral?

No, however a valid referral from your GP or another specialist is strongly encouraged – it will allow you to claim the maximum rebate for consultations from Medicare (DVA patients must have a valid referral for all appointments).

Fees?

Patients will be provided with anticipated fees via email before each appointment. Please call the friendly reception team on 07 3184 3430 if you wish to discuss fees.

Telehealth?

Telehealth appointments are available upon request and where appropriate for patients.

Cancellation Policy?

New patients are required to pay a refundable $50 deposit before their first appointment. Deposits are not taken for subsequent appointments.

We kindly ask for 24 hours notice if you are unable to attend your appointment – if you have a deposit on hold, this will be refunded.

A fee of $50 may apply for missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

If you have missed an appointment or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice without exceptional circumstance, full payment in advance may be required before future appointments can be booked.

Many specialist medical practices require deposits to reduce unexplained no-shows. Each missed appointment delays timely medical care for other patients.

Preparing for my appointment

  1. New patients must arrive 10 minutes before their appointment time and return the enrolment form via email admin@dermgroup.com.au at least 2 days prior to their appointment.

  2. A valid referral is strongly encouraged to allow you to claim the maximum rebate for consultations from Medicare (DVA patients must have a valid referral for all appointments).

  3. Bring your medical history and investigation/bloodwork results– This includes details about any current medications, allergies, and past skin conditions.

  4. Wear loose, comfortable clothing – This allows easy access to areas that may need examination, especially if your skin concerns are not limited to the face.

  5. Remove makeup– This allows the dermatologist to fully assess your skin without barriers.

  6. Prepare questions – If you have any questions, writing them down beforehand can help ensure all your concerns are addressed.
